Time and Work is most important part of Quantitative aptitude for any competitive examination. in each and every examination you will find at least one time and work's sum and believe me its so easy to solved through following shortcuts and tricks. Time and work also been a part of our maths examination in lower standards.
now what is it and how to use it? let me show you a breif example.
Derp can do his job in 20 days, so Derp can do his job 1/20 Per day - Fractions
Derp can do his job in 20 days, so Derp can do his job 100/20 = 5% per day - Efficiency
Now Efficiency is my favorite part to calculate time and work. i believe it is best shortcut to get proper answer. here looks how can we calculate the following example with Efficiency.
Derp can do his job 5% per day
now lets solve the following example too with efficiency.
Derp can do his job in 20 days. Herp can do the same job in 10 days. in how many days they can complete the job if they work together?
now derp efficiency is 5%
and herp's efficiency is 10% now how can we calculate time and work between efficiency. lets look at following part.
Derp + Herp Work Efficiency is 10+5= 15% so their paired efficiency to work for per day is 15%. in how many days they could complete the work ?
ans is 100/15 = 6.67 days
another example :
Derp and Herp can do a job in 4 days if they worked together. if derp can complete the job in 12 days if he works alone. in how many days herp can do the job alone?
here is the solution :
Derp + Herp = 100/4 = 25% / Day
Derp = 100/12 = 8.33% / Day
Herp Efficiency will be (Derp + Herp total) - (Derp's Efficiency) (25-8.33) 16.66%/Day
so 100 / 16.66 = 6 days. Tada Herp can complete his work in 6 days alone.
Time And Work Shortcuts & Tricks Method
